Our teaching courses enhance college, university and job applications. Each course is divided into 6 interactive modules, including short films to illustrate the many issues we highlight.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards champion our teaching and volunteering programme for all students interested in improving their communication skills. The British Medical Association recommends our Creative Thoughtfulness in the Care of Others programme for students pursuing a career in medicine.
There are four online courses:
-
- Creative Thoughtfulness in the Care of Others: 6 x 1hour sessions covering 15 categories where creative thoughtfulness can make a significant difference to the way a patient feels about their care.
-
- Winter Teaching Course: 6 x 1hour sessions, focusing on how to support older people during the winter months. This course runs November – January.
-
- Summer Teaching Course: 6 x 1hour sessions, focusing on the challenges older people might face during the summer months. This course runs June – August.
-
- KiB Dementia Awareness Course: 6 x 1hour sessions covering: how dementia affects people and their families; how to communicate more effectively with someone living with dementia; and how you can help make a difference.
Students can complete these courses in 3 ways:
Independently: via a flexible rotating timetable of live, interactive, online teaching sessions that take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am & 5pm (excluding bank holidays). Cost: £20 per course
Through school or college: we offer education providers a tailored programme of courses plus volunteering, combining interactive training with supported volunteering experience in hospitals and care homes. This intensive programme helps students develop confidence and sensitive communication skills while gaining meaningful real-world experience. Timetables are flexible. Cost: TBA depending on the number of students

For Primary Schools

Our interactive primary school workshop is called When Great Granny Came to Stay. The sessions explore simple ways to make an older relative feel valued and cherished when they come to visit. Children learn what it’s like to be old in a rapidly-changing world and discover creative ways to show they care. Once a school has completed our workshop, we set up KiB clubs to link them to local care homes and day centres, so children get the chance to help older people in their community too.
There is some funding available for these courses.
For Hospital Staff
We offer one online teaching programme to all our partner NHS hospitals. NHS England says:
“Kissing it Better has a reputation and reach that is the envy of many organisations; its ethos is powerful yet simple,”
NHS England Report.
This interactive course includes a selection of short films that illustrate some of the many issues faced by staff at all levels in an acute hospital, and demonstrates how simple ideas can make a significant difference to the way patients feel about their care. Creative Thoughtfulness in the Care of Others is delivered through a flexible rotating timetable of six online teaching sessions of one hour each.
This course is free to our partner hospitals.
